چکیده

Abstract Female reproductive success depends to a large extent on infants’ ability survive maturity. While most studies of female have focused the effects individuals’ sociodemographic factors (e.g., age/parity, dominance rank) offspring survival among wild primates living in less disturbed habitats, little research has urban or periurban animals. Here we investigated and anthropogenic determinants infant (up 1 yr age) free-ranging bonnet macaques ( Macaca radiata ) environment Southern India. We conducted study from November 2016 May 2018, two groups at Thenmala tourist site state Kerala. Fifty infants were born across birth seasons. Of these infants, 29.2% died disappeared 2017 26.9% 2018. found that was strongly influenced by mother’s parity: experienced mothers had better chance than those first-time mothers. also male more likely die infants. However, no mothers’ rank, frequency interactions with humans time spent foraging food, survival. Our results, consistent findings other primate species, show even challenging human-impacted environments, macaque greater inexperienced ones.

Affiliative relationships and reciprocity among adult male bonnet macaques (Macaca radiata) at Arunachala Hill, India.

In captivity, male bonnet macaques (Macaca radiata) frequently express "friendship" toward one another, including affiliative behavior such as huddling, grooming, coalitionary support, and sitting in close proximity. The purpose of this study was to determine whether wild adult male bonnet macaques also express "friendship" by investigating whether or not (1) adult male bonnet macaques have aff...

Snake Species Discrimination by Wild Bonnet Macaques ( Macaca radiata )

Wild bonnet macaques (Macaca radiata) were studied in southern India to assess their ability to discriminate non-venomous, venomous and predatory snakes. Realistic snake models were presented to eight troops of bonnet macaques at feeding stations and their behavior was video-recorded 3 min before and 3 min after snake exposure. Snakes presented were: (1) venomous Indian cobra (Naja naja) displa...

Flexibility in Food Extraction Techniques in Urban Free-Ranging Bonnet Macaques, Macaca radiata

Non-human primate populations, other than responding appropriately to naturally occurring challenges, also need to cope with anthropogenic factors such as environmental pollution, resource depletion, and habitat destruction. Populations and individuals are likely to show considerable variations in food extraction abilities, with some populations and individuals more efficient than others at exp...

Challenges to bonnet monkey (Macaca radiata) social groups: Mother-infant dyad and infant social interactions.

The mother-infant dyad is crucial to early development in a variety of species. The complexity of social groupings in nonhuman primates makes this relationship resilient as well as susceptible to early challenges associated with environmental chaos. Quantitative behavior observations of bonnet monkey mother-infant interactions were collected from 28 mother-infant dyads between one and twelve mo...
